The Test Booster Course has been designed for those who are nearing test standard and just need a short burst of lessons prior to their test. It is also ideal for those who attempted a driving test some time ago but haven’t had any lessons since.

The in-car tuition is 15 hours on a one pupil to one instructor basis (this includes 2 hours for a lesson before the test and the driving test itself). When you add the home study, using the LD driving skills DVDs or videos and workbook, the total duration of the course is around 18 hours.

SEMI-INTENSIVE PASS COURSE

The Semi-Intensive Pass Course consists of 30 hours in-car tuition on a one pupil to one instructor basis (this includes 2 hours for a lesson before the test and the driving test itself). This training is spread over two or more weeks to suit you and your instructor’s schedule. This is the most popular and successful form of intensive training. It is designed for people who want to pass the test quickly but at a more comfortable pace.

NB. You will be more likely to succeed if you have had some basic driving experience before embarking on this course.

ONE WEEK PASS COURSE

The One Week Pass Course consists of 30 hours in-car tuition on a one pupil to one instructor basis (this includes 2 hours for a lesson before the test and the driving test itself). When you add the home study, using the LD driving skills DVDs or videos and workbook, the total duration of this course is around 35 hours.

The course usually starts on a Monday and finishes on a Friday or Saturday and is ideal for those who are in a hurry and could not otherwise find the time. The driving test would usually be organised to take place at the end of the week or during the following week depending on your personal preference and test availability. If you want a test at the end of the course you would need to book the course and pass the theory test well in advance of the required start date (i.e. at least 6-8 weeks).

NB. You will be more likely to succeed if you have had some basic driving experience before embarking on this course.

PASS PLUS

PASS PLUS is a voluntary driving course that you can undertake once you have passed your driving test. It has been designed by the Driving Standards Agency to develop the skills and knowledge of newly qualified drivers, broaden their driving experience and encourage safer and more positive driving. Once you have received your qualification, you will be eligible to receive one additional year's no claims discount on your car insurance from participating insurance companies. PASS PLUS can only be taken during your first year as a qualified driver.

The training is divided into six modules, at least five of which are taught on the road. The practical sessions cover driving in town, rural roads, night driving, all weather driving, dual carriageways and motorways. However, more than six lessons may be required to reach the required standard.

Cost:

standard one hour lesson rate (see prices) plus separate trip to the mainland to cover dual carriageways and motorways (see below).

MOTORWAY LESSONS

Current legislation does not allow learner drivers to experience motorways. This means that your first time driving on a motorway or dual carriageway on the mainland after passing your test can be very daunting. Motorway lessons are structured to teach you how to drive safely and confidently on these busy highways. To make it more cost effective a minimum of two pupils will be required for a trip to the mainland.

Cost:

standard one hour lesson rate (see prices) plus equal share of ferry booking (minimum two pupils – maximum three pupils).
